What is the shortest amount of time I can allow gorilla glue to set?
Q. I was told it could take 24 hours- but I have to use the item in 7 hours. Is there an alternative? (not superglue please it isn't strong enough). How about the 5 minute epoxy? Is that almost as strong as gorilla glue?
Asked by lix321 - Fri Nov 3 10:41:28 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Gorilla glue should begin to set in 4 hours or so, but it won't develop it's full strength until around 24 hours after application. Since you don't say what you are building or what your going to use it in, I would say if the joint is also secured with another device (nails or screws), you may want to use an alternative adhesive. The use of an epoxy should give you strength as good or better then the gorilla glue.

What will hold glass block to a formica bar top better....Silicone or Gorilla Glue? ?
Q. I'm having a company put together some block for me, but I have to glue it to my formica bar tops. They swear on the silicone, but others from Home Depot say the Gorilla Glue does everything it says it does. Any experience with the 2?

A. Glass expands and contracts. The silicon stretches. The Gorilla glue does not. And chances are that these gus have done this before. Have you? I have been using silicon for years. I have seen what Gorilla glue does also. It expands, but it does not contract. After expanding, it becomes hard. Thus, if th eglass expands, it will break loose. Listen to to the guys that know what they are doing. They will have asked the pros themselves if they were not sure. Why don't YOU ask the Home Depot people? They might actually know what they are talking about for once. My son is a contractor. Listen to the guys doing the work...okay?

Gorilla Glue on an Inflatable Ball?
Q. My neighbor and I have this inflatable ball that is very similar to a beach ball but larger. There was a pretty big rip in the side of it and we used Gorilla Glue to try to seal it. When it dries, will it have worked? Will we need to be extra careful with it?
Asked by Mandy J - Mon Jun 30 19:18:37 2008 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Believe it or not, Gorilla Glue is not the answer to ALL gluing situations, and is not the best for most of them. Unless you both figured out a way to clamp the parts together (GG does not fill gaps and will push apart unclamped items) and the ball is a type of plastic that will accept adhesives, all you have succeeded in doing is creating a mess.

What houehold product removes "Gorilla Glue" from a non-granite kitchen counter top?
Q. Help, help, help!! Several months ago, I glued my son's school project together, on an unprotected kitchen counter top using "Gorilla Glue". The next day, I noticed the glue had dried in several visible areas on the counter top. I have tried scubbing it with a few non-abrasive cleaners to no avail. This is where you all come in, I have not solved this problem, but I know someone in cyberspace can! Your expertise is greatly appreciated! Thank You, Kindly!

A. What you need to do is get a razor blade and try to cut it off closest to the counter top as possible. After that I would try a super fine sand paper and some soapy warm water.

How long does Gorilla Glue take to bond?
Q. I know it takse 3-4 hours to cure, but I am wondering how long it takes to bond. I want to glue something overhead and later come back and run screw into it. This way my hand will be free for the drill and screws.
Asked by Peter O - Fri Nov 24 18:54:22 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It only takes a few minutes, but if you're gluing something heavy, I'd hold it longer. And be careful with gorilla glue, it expands and creeps out the edges, gets all puffy and foamy, and dries so hard you can't get the excess off.
