What bonding agent can bond polystyrene sheets to paneling and create a strong bond?
Q. Also could it be used to bond polystyrene to corrugated fiberglass panels? PL Premium, Liquid Nails and Roberts (carpet & sheet vinyl) do not work. Norman, thanks I woundered about that however this is an area of about 10' x 12'. Wouldn't that require a lot of epoxy? No I didn't wounded about it I wondered. I don't know who gave the thumbs down but if they have a better answer why not say so.

What is the difference between a hydrogen bond and a covalent bond?
Q. I am doing a chapter in inorganic chemistry...is there a trick to learning and understanding all of this? I have a lonnngg way to go! Anyway my question is what is the difference between a hydrogen bond and covalent bond? I read the definitions but they make no sense to me. Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks a lot =)

A. A covalent bond is a very strong bond where the atoms are physically sharing the electrons within the bond. Covalent bonds generally take place between two non-metals (to the right of the "staircase" on the periodic table) A hydrogen bond happens because of the polar nature of the covalent bond that hydrogen makes with oxygen, nitrogen, or fluorine. Since these atoms are highly electronegative (basically, they hog the electrons that they are sharing), they take on a partial negative charge (from the extra electron density). At the same time, the hydrogen that they are bound to takes on a partial positive charge. These partial charges are what form the hydrogen bond.

How do we twist a bond and how does it differ from rotating a bond?
Q. How does twisting of bond affect the properties? I guess that twisting bonds changes the bond angles and must have some effects on the properties but i just can't imagine how we can twist a bond? Please give a proper explanation Thank You

A. we dont twist a bond , it gets twisted itself by various factors . like if u take ethane and replace all 4 hydrogens by bigger groups (called bulky groups) like methyls or someting , there is crowding and hence steric hindrence which provides unstability to the compound and well acc to the law of nature that it supports stability , the compound tries to dodge the change by twisting its bond and hence reduced the hindrenece. same way in compounds which show resonance , if the bulkier groups are really near by , there is steric hindrence , and to avoid it , the bond twists and one of the groups goes outa plane . thsi is called steric inhibtion to resonance . twisting a bond is especiaaly important in resonance , hybridisation and… [cont.]
