How Do Gorillas Communicate?
Q. well i have a question on my homework that said "How does it communicate through sound?" and i have looked and have absolutely NO clue how western lowland gorillas communicate... HALP! Oh what steps are being taken to protect this animal?
Asked by loseravery - Wed Apr 16 21:55:41 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Gorillas communicate just like you and I. Just because we don't understand their "speech" does not mean they are not speaking. Anyway, they use grunts, mostly (as far as i can recall). Actually, one of the major ways that gorillas and other apes communicate - even more so than vocallizations- is through facial expression and body language, just like humans.

Q. ok..can u please look over my research report and tell me if it is good or not?tell me what i can do 2 improve it..thank u Endangered Mountain Gorillas The safety of hundreds of mountain gorillas living in different parts of Africa depends on the habitat that these animals live in. Mountain gorillas have been endangered for years in many different ways. Endangered mountain gorillas are very similar to humans. There are three different groups of gorillas and the mountain gorilla is one of them. There are some differences between these gorillas. Mature male mountain gorillas are called silverbacks. The height that a silverback gorilla can reach up to is 5'6. The height of a female mountain gorilla is 5ft. A mountain gorilla has black and… [cont.]

A. This report is completely disorganized. Put "graphic organizer" in your search engine and download a report organizer. You may not like my answer, but at least I am telling you the truth. A bunch of disorganized facts do not make a decent report. You must put them in some sort of logical order. I can't take the time to explain it to you here, this should have been taught to you in some orderly way years ago. However, using a graphic organizer should help.

Is race really Trivial After All?
Q. lately i've been seeing and hearing a lot about racial issues. It started to make me think about us, our species. I personally believe that race is non existent. I feel that our cultural denominations black, white, asian, etc. are just social identities that we allow ourselves to assimilate to. if you think about it race is a human concept, no other species on the planet has any notion of the word. Oddly enough race is just another word for sub group or sub species. Think about all the animals that have different sub groups. A prime example would be Gorillas. You have The Mountain Gorilla, The Eastern Lowland Gorilla, and Western Lowland Gorilla. Each sub group with its own distinct features light fur color, height, and facial features.… [cont.]

A. I would agree but such ideas of race will always exist. They were used to gain equal rights. For example...two years ago when I was freshman I was forced into a black meeting from my school for 'empowerment' and it was a group of five adult African americans who told us to embrace our Heritage to gain power(one lady even said 'the white man wants to take your corn rolls'. I would the whole idea silly since I believe you should not even look at such things

With a new form of HIV emerging, should we take more steps to snub out the trade in Bush Meat?
Q. "A new form of HIV from gorillas has been identified in a woman from Cameroon. The 62-year old woman, who is now living in Paris, appears to have a new human lineage of HIV virus type 1 and is the first definite human infection of HIV-1 from a non-chimpanzee ape source. Jean-Christophe Plantier, of the University of Rouen in France, and his colleagues found the new virus to be highly similar to gorilla simian immunodeficiency virus but not to have undergone recombination with chimpanzee SIV. They propose the new lineage be labelled P as it is distinct from the currently known types M, O, and N. Our findings indicate that gorillas, in addition to chimpanzees, are likely sources of HIV-1, write the authors in Nature Medicine (paper,… [cont.]

A. Well I have had a little 'bush meat' in my time, however, I have never felt the need to publicise the fact. The HIV virus (in my not so humble opinion) is a man made virus introduced into the wild by 'military' zealots and just got out of hand. It is well to remember that we shall reap that which we sow.

why do people think that just because there are "living fossils" that evolution is disproved?
Q. Creationists sometimes claim that the existence of living fossils disproves the theory of evolution. They usually don't explain the reasoning by which they reach this conclusion, but it seems to be based on one or both of two possible errors. The first error is to think that a handful of lineages which have stayed stable over a long period of time somehow means that all lineages do this. This is on a par with pointing to someone who's lived in the same house for fifty years as evidence that no-one ever relocates. The fact is that the same fossil record which shows us that some lineages have remained stable over long periods of time also shows that other lineages have undergone large evolutionary changes. If creationists were right, all… [cont.]

A. You have made some good points. The 2 extant species of coelocanths (Latimeria) represent an extremely old evolutionary line, but I had not heard of their differences from forms hundreds of millions of years ago; such species derivations are not always easy to determine from fossils. The idea that gorillas are "living fossils" is derived from the old comment that, "If humans evolved from apes, then why are there still apes?" And, yes, discussion of such topics is very much like the old adage that "one should not attempt to teach a pig to sing- it wastes your time and it annoys the pig." Are those of us that refuse to listen to Creationist "theory" being close-minded, the way we accuse THEM of being? I have been accused of such a… [cont.]
