GermanNounGorilla m. (genitive Gorillas, plural Gorillas) From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Gorillas are the largest of the living primates. They are ground-dwelling and predominantly herbivorous. They inhabit the forests of central Africa. Gorillas are divided into two species and (still under debate as of 2008) either four or five subspecies. The DNA of gorillas is 98%–99% identical to that of a human, and they are the next closest living relatives to humans after the two chimpanzee species. Gorillas' natural habitats cover tropical or subtropical forests in Africa. Although their range covers a small percentage of Africa, gorillas cover a wide range of elevations. The Mountain Gorilla inhabits the Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, ranging in altitude from 2,200–4,300 metres (7,200–14,100 ft). Lowland Gorillas live in dense forests and lowland swamps and marshes as low as sea level, with Western Lowland Gorillas living in Central West African countries and Eastern Lowland Gorillas living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo near its border with Rwanda. GNU Free Documentation License How does a gorilla discipline its young? Q. When a baby gorilla misbehaves in the wild (or a zoo, I suppose) how does the mother gorilla (or other gorillas in the band) discipline the baby? Does the mother push or hit the baby or is it ignored? What happens? Thanks. Asked by Mighty Mouse - Wed Oct 28 18:23:48 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. It all depends on what the infant is doing, different behavior will cause different disciplinary action. For example making mom mad is going to be a very different behavior than making the silverback of the group mad. Disciplinary action can be hitting, biting, shoving, yelling and sometimes as simple as gently holding the infant down. The one good thing with gorillas is they are extremely smart and they understand how far they can "punish" an infant or juvenile without doing serious physical harm. Of course accidents do happen, but overall things go well. Answered by The Cheshire - Wed Oct 28 18:52:55 2009 What is the best type of food to feed a gorilla? Q.
